Quando mi hanno chiesto di fare 200 coccinelle, ero un po’ perplessa, ci ho pensato un po’, avrei fatto 200 fischietti di terracotta ingobbiata, a forma di coccinella, invece la scelta è caduta su uno smalto rosso.
Una coccinella come bomboniera, mi ci voglio divertire.
È una vita che non uso smalti, per motivi vari, in primis perché mi soddisfano i colori sobri della terra.
ma queste coccinelle mi hanno divertito, e ora che le guardo pascolare, mi viene voglia di smalti coloratissimi.When i was asked to make 200 Ladybugs I was a bit puzzled, spent a momet thinking of it, I would have made 200 slipped earthenware whistles, ladybug-shaped, but the choice fell on a red enamel.

It’s a long time since i used enamels last, for various reasons i gave up glazes, mainly because Iim fine with the sober colors of the earth.
But I have enjoyed these tiny ladybugs , and now looking at them at the pasture, I feel like i’m gonna use colorful enamels soon.

Artemia era quasi un ferrovecchio, è una vecchia impastatrice da fornaio,

l’ho cercata tanto,  ora è lì alla fornace ,devo solo riverniciarla e rimetterla in sesto. La trovo bellissima.

Sono ospite per qualche mese presso la Fornace Fedeli.
Dopo un paio di Summer-School con Nino Caruso ho iniziato la mia ricerca sulla ceramica per architettura; qui -in fornace- il punto di partenza è ovviamente il mattone, fatto a mano e cotto a legna, come si usa a Castel Viscardo.
Questi elementi sono  inizialmente pensati per uso decorativo, ora  sto testando  materiali a bassa densità (per isolamento termico e sonoro)

I materiali sono tutti di origine locale, assolutamente naturali (pietre vulcaniche, paglia, segatura) .
Le tecniche sono un’evoluzione di quelle consuete utilizzate in fornace,
la cottura -a legna- è intorno ai 1000°C  e conferisce ai pezzi  textura e colorazione non ottenibili altrimenti.
Possono essere studiati e prodotti prototipi per superfici e necessità particolari.
Working for a while in a Hand made Bricks Factory: Fornace Fedeli.
After a couple of Summer Schools by Nino Caruso, i started a research about Architectural ceramics;
here in this ancient Brick Factory, the starting point is obviously the hand made and wood fired brick, as they use from centuries in Castel Viscardo.

These tiles are first thought as decorative ones, but i’m now testing low density materials, for both sound and thermic insulation.
I’m useing local clay and other natural materials, like volcanic stones, straw, and sawdust.
The production techniques are an evolution of the ones usually practiced in the factory.
The pieces are fired at about 1000C°, we only use a wood kiln, which gives unique colors and texture.
I’m designing and producing -with their help- prototypes for specific surfaces and needs.
